Problems:
- The Self-checkout POS systems cause issues with scanning items incorrectly. Some customers rescan cheaper products when they do not want to pay the price for the more costly items they plan to leave the store with. This results in Target not getting paid for items that are being taken out of the store.
- Target posts certain items to Instagram that are only available in certain stores. This misleads their consumers into thinking that they can purchase items from their local Target that they viewed being promoted on social media. This can cause customers to feel disappointed and not want to continue to support Target.
.- Target's POS system rings up WIC (Woman Infants & Children) orders with items that aren’t WIC approved. Target sells WIC products approved for the supplemental food program for women and children. When ringing up a WIC order, some items aren’t WIC-approved items, but it tells you at the end instead of earlier on.
Recommendations:
For the self-checkout POS system issue, we recommend Target to develop cameras on their systems to prevent customers from taking items with them that they are not paying for. Those who still decide to steal can suffer repracautions due to there now being footage for proof.
Next, the problem regarding Target's content that they post on their Instagram can be fixed by providing clarity on social media captions to help get rid of confusion between customers and retailers. This will prevent customers from going to Target's to find items that are not there. Customers' frustration and retailers confusion will decrease greatly if they added more specification on Instagram.
Lastly, Target can fix the issue regarding WIC by restructuring their system so it’s clear when an item is not WIC approved and needs to be separated. This will save customers a lot more time and confusion when they are shopping.
